Visiting Hours

Visiting Someone You Care For

If you are a visitor, we encourage you to show your support when someone you care for is in the hospital. Your visit will lift the spirits of a friend or family member. In the patient's best interest, we limit visiting hours to specific times of day. It's a good idea to acquaint yourself with the guidelines we've established before you visit.

Visiting Hours

General visiting hours are from 1:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. (except for Post-Partum, ICU/CCU, Pediatrics and Rehab). No more than two visitors are allowed at one time. Please note the specific age restrictions for children visiting certain units, as shown below. The Main Entrance Doors are locked from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. If you are visiting someone in a unit with additional hours, please use the Emergency Room Entrance.

-General Visiting Hours: 10:00 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. Two people may visit at a time; others should wait in the main lobby. Visiting may be restricted for children who have just had surgery or who have critical illnesses. Visitation by children under age 12 is restricted to siblings; children under 2 years may not visit Pediatrics, which is considered an infectious unit.

-Parents/guardians/grandparents: 8:00 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. One parent/guardian may stay with a patient overnight. We strongly recommend that a guardian remain with patients under 12 years of age, especially for children under 4 years of age, to meet the child's emotional and communication needs.

-Siblings 2 years to 17 years: Monday through Friday 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., with duration of visit less than two hours per day. Pediatric patients who are in isolation may not have visits from siblings or other children.

Maternity, Post Partum and Gynecology

The Birthing Center at JFK Medical Center promotes the safety, rest, comfort and privacy all new parents need, so we ask visitors to respect the specific requests of our staff and new parents. During the labor, delivery and recovery process, no more than two support persons may be in the birthing suite at a time. Visitors not in the birthing area or maternity patient room are welcome to stay in the family waiting room or other public areas in the hospital. We request that visitors not stay in the hall outside the Family Suite as this may disrupt other mothers and babies who are trying to rest. Please check with the nursing staff prior to entering the Family Suites.

-Father/Support Person: 7:00 a.m. - Midnight. Father/Support Person may visit anytime in the Special Care Nursery.

-General Visiting Hours, including Grandparents and Siblings: 11:00 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. Limit of four people, not including the Father/Support Person. Visitation by children under age 12 is restricted to siblings; siblings of the newborn should be over 2 years of age, and siblings under 10 years of age must be supervised by a visiting adult.

Rehabilitation/Brain Trauma Unit

Monday through Friday: 4:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m, and Saturday and Sunday: 1:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Visiting hours in the Brain Trauma Unit are strictly enforced.

Intensive Care Unit/Critical Care Unit

No visitors or phone calls during the hours of 7:00 a.m. - 8:15 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. - 8:15 p.m.
