Hearing Evaluation

Hearing Evaluation

The Center for Audiology at JFK Medical Center performs comprehensive hearing evaluations for patients of all ages. Our audiologists are highly experienced and knowledgeable – all with Certificates of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association – and tailor the assessment to each patient’s unique needs.

What To Expect

After sitting down with you to gather your case history, the audiologist will then conduct an in-depth assessment. This will be used to determine the nature and degree of your hearing loss. From there, the doctor may recommend further testing or treatment or prescribe a hearing aid or other assistive listening device. We carry the latest hearing aid technologies, including in-the-ear and behind-the-ear styles, so you can make the best choice for your hearing health, budget and lifestyle.

Types of Hearing Tests

With specialized hearing booths and the most advanced equipment on the market today, the Center for Audiology can get an accurate reading and diagnosis of your specific type and degree of hearing loss. Tests for the inner ear, middle ear, outer ear and hearing nerves are available. We also offer tests suited for children.

Your hearing evaluation may consist of one or more of the following tests:

  • Pure-Tone Testing
  • Speech Audiometry
  • Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR)
  • Otoacoustic Emissions (OAEs)
  • Tympanometry
  • Acoustic Reflex Measures
  • Static Acoustic Impedance
  • And more

The results of the evaluation will indicate where the hearing loss originates, whether or not it is permanent or correctable and which treatment method would be most effective. We will also be able to tell if the hearing loss is caused by structural damage or neurological degeneration, and if the degree of hearing loss is categorized as mild, moderate, moderately severe, severe or profound.
