Dear Friend:
Did you know that in New Jersey alone there are nearly 9,000 traumatic brain injuries from falls, motor vehicle crashes, assaults and self-inflicted injury resulting in hospitalization or death? Each year in the United States 1.4 million Americans sustain a traumatic brain injury. Of this figure, approximately 80,000 - 90,000 experience the onset of long-term disability following traumatic brain injury and more than 50,000 die as a result of their injury. Even more astounding, the annual incidence of traumatic brain injury is higher than that of breast cancer, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury and HIV/AIDS combined!
On Sunday, July 25, 2010, JFK Medical Center will hold the
2nd Annual JFK Miles for Minds 5K and Fun Run/Walk at Roosevelt Park in Edison to benefit the Center for Head Injuries at JFK Medical Center.
Recognizing the need for a specialized treatment environment for individuals with acquired brain injury, JFK established the Center for Head Injuries in 1981 to provide these patients with a broad spectrum of services. Our Center for Head Injuries is nationally recognized as a pioneer in developing a continuum of head trauma treatment and therapy care from coma care to community re-entry. The Center's goal is to restore real-life skills to individuals with head injuries so that they may return to their family and community at the maximum level.
And you can help! Your participation in the
2nd Annual JFK Miles for Minds 5K and Fun Run/Walk is an excellent opportunity to support the important work of the Center for Head Injuries while attending a fun-filled community event. Registration is easy! Register on-line at
