JFK is one of only 25 percent of hospitals nationwide to be accredited by the Commission on Cancer as a Comprehensive Community Cancer Program. This elite distinction represents a gold standard level of care, featuring progressive diagnostic technology and therapies, compassionate support services, and a multi-disciplinary team of experienced physicians and medical professionals. Our Regional Cancer Center addresses every aspect of oncology care, including routine screenings, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, surgery, inpatient care at the JFK Auxiliary Oncology Pavilion, even breakthrough clinical trials through the Center’s own studies and affiliation with the Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

Medical Center is dedicated to advancing knowledge and enhancing care by creating a collaborative environment focused on the prevention, detection, and treatment of cancer to improve quality of life for patients and survivors.The Center offers a full complement of comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services - advanced state-of-the art diagnostic equipment, pathology, surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, stereotactic radiosurgery, investigational clinical trials, and a comprehensive Breast Care Center - to effectively identify and treat myriad forms of cancer. With a balanced approach to patient care, the Cancer Center provides complimentary therapies to support the diverse needs of cancer patients including nursing care, nutritional care, discharge planning, outpatient services counseling and hospice care.
Accredited by the Commission on Cancer (American College of Surgeons) as a Comprehensive Community Cancer Center, the cancer program at JFK Medical Center distinguishes itself through our highly-skilled, specialized staff, including oncology-certified nurses and certified radiation therapists as well as membership in the Cancer Institute of New Jersey -- providing the opportunity for our patients to participate in clinical trials. This Accreditation -- with eight commendations awarded -- is the highest designation given to a community cancer center and is a testament to the excellent quality of care we deliver.
With an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to care, our team of healthcare professionals works together to develop a treatment plan that best meets a patient's needs, and gives him/her every advantage against cancer. Our multidisciplinary team of specially-trained professionals includes pathologists, oncologists, neuro-oncologists, surgeons, hematologists, radiologists and radiation oncologists. Together, these physicians meet for on-going conferences and learning opportunities such as the Breast Conference, Tumor Board, and Hematology and Neuro-Oncology Conferences to assess and discuss the best approach to treatment and care, ensuring the optimum outcome for patients and their families. In turn, the physicians are supported by registered nurses, radiation therapists, pharmacy personnel, registered dieticians, counselors and licensed social works.

Support Services
Because of the comprehensive services available, the need for patients and their families to travel out of central New Jersey for state-of-the-art cancer treatment is eliminated; patients and families can take comfort in knowing they will receive advanced technical treatments from caring experts close to home.
Prevention & Early Detection
When it comes to cancer, screenings and early detection are the keys to successful treatment. JFK Medical Center offers state-of-the-art radiologic technology and nuclear medicine, as well as a Breast Center dedicated to women’s health. All of these facilities are linked through a digital picture archiving and communications system (PACS) that expedites test results and ensures the quickest path to effective therapy.
Cutting Edge Diagnostic Techniques Include:
- Positron emission tomography (PET) scanning to detect biochemical malignancy.
- 64-slice CT scanning for superior imaging of the heart, brain, lungs and other organs.
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
- Interventional radiology for diagnosis and treatment.
- X-ray, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, nuclear medicine and other diagnostic capabilities.
Breast Center
Our comprehensive Breast Center provides a complete array of advanced diagnostic, counseling, education and support services for women in the community. Accredited by the American College of Radiology, the Center combines modern technology with a comfortable, caring environment that addresses all aspects of breast health.
A team of board certified radiologists, certified technologists and other professionals utilize the latest tools to detect cancer in its earliest stages, including:
- Full field digital mammography and Analog
- Ultrasound core needle biopsy
- Stereotactic core needle biopsy
- MRI-guided breast biopsy
- Ultrasound
- Needle localization
- Breast cyst aspiration
- Bone density scanning
Treatment
The Regional Cancer Center offers an arsenal of cancer-fighting interventions for all types and stages of disease. Personalized, compassionate care is provided at the hospital’s various outpatient facilities as well as the JFK Oncology Care Pavilion designed around the specialized needs of cancer patients. Our programs incorporate a myriad of gold standard treatment options, including:
- Chemotherapy and other infusion therapies
- Radiation oncology services, such as IGRT (image-guided radiation therapy) IMRT (intensity-modulated radiation therapy), 3-D conformal radiotherapy, and afterloading brachytherapy
- Medical Oncology
- Gamma Knife (stereotactic radiosurgery)
- Prostate seed implant therapy
- Clinical research trials, including studies available through the hospital’s affiliation with The Cancer Institute of New Jersey
