Post Partum

Your Baby is Finally Almost Here! How Wonderful!

On our Post Partum Unit we strive toward excellence and providing great care to our patients.  We hope that if there is anything you need while you are our patient, you will let us know as soon as possible, so that we can meet your needs.

Upon arrival to Post Partum, you will be greeted by your nurse, who will discuss the routine of the floor and your options for pain management. She will be available to answer any of your questions. After you are settled in, the nursery nurse will bring the baby into the room and give you some instructions on care of your newborn. She will also show you the supplies available in your baby’s crib.

We encourage you to use the time on Post Partum to rest and to bond with your baby. Our staff is here to help you adjust to the new role and to gain some skills on caring for the baby. While we understand that having a baby is a joyful and exciting occasion, we encourage you as a new mother to take time to rest. To help you facilitate that, we have a “Quiet Time” from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m., when the lights are dimmed on the unit and the noise level kept at the lowest possible level.

To make sure you receive all the necessary information for caring for your newborn as well as yourself as a new mother, we invite you to attend one of our daily discharge classes, as part of our ongoing patient education.

To ensure that you are a part of your health care decision making team, your doctor and your baby’s doctor will visit daily. They will be available to you to answer your questions.

Your comfort is our priority. If you experience pain, please be sure to let your nurse know, so that she can address it according to our pain management protocol.

The length of your hospital stay will depend on the type of delivery you had as well as your general condition.
