Dr. Richard Malone specializes in the inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation of patients with traumatic and non-traumatic brain injuries.

Dr. Malone received a bachelor’s degree in biology from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, IA.  He received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree from UMDNJ-School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, New Jersey.  Subsequently, he completed a one-year internship at Kenned Memorial Hospital’s – University Medical Center in Southern New Jersey where he served as Chief Intern overseeing 42 interns.  He then completed a three year residency Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute (JRI) where he served as Chief Resident from 1993-1994.

Dr. Malone has been an attending physician in the acute Brain Trauma Unit at JRI since 1994.  He is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and UMDNJ-School of Osteopathic Medicine (Rowen).  Dr. Malone is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

His research interests include being a treating physician in the Amantadine/Placebo Medication Study in patients with traumatic brain injury who are in a minimally conscious state or vegetative state.

In 2002 and 2014, Dr. Malone received the Kathy Wong, M.D. Memorial Award from JRI’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.  This award is presented to the physician who exhibits the highest degree of kindness, compassion, and concern for patients and their families.  He was also the recipient of the Volunteer Faculty Member of the Year Award from the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in 2004.

In addition to his medical degree, Dr. Malone holds the degree of Doctor of Chiropractic, summa cum laude, from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.
