Balance Treatment

The Center for Audiology at the Johnson Rehabilitation Institute is equipped to diagnose and treat a range of balance disorders. Every patient is attended by an American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)-certified audiologist and receives access to the latest advancements in evaluation and treatment technology.

Audiology Evaluation

Since a person’s balance system is partly controlled by the inner ear (vestibular system), an audiologist can help determine the possible cause. You and your doctor will start by discussing your symptoms, such as spinning, floating, vision problems, vertigo, nausea, imbalance and/or whirling. Then, he or she will likely perform an in-depth hearing evaluation. Depending on the results of the assessment, they will devise a personalized plan of action to help minimize or eliminate symptoms. Multidisciplinary treatment options include drug therapy, surgery, physical therapy (vestibular rehabilitation) or a combination of the three.

Compensatory Strategies

For individuals with balance problems, compensatory strategies and rehabilitation are typically most successful. Since the Johnson Rehabilitation Institute is a world-class, nationally recognized institute, patients residing in the Edison, New Jersey and Monroe, New Jersey areas often see some degree of improvement when treated at this premier balance disorder facility.

Along with counseling and patient education regarding vestibular health and coping mechanisms, patients may also benefit from the following treatment methods:
