Artists with Parkinson's Disease Are Celebrated In A One-Of-A-Kind Art Exhibition At JFK New Jersey Neuroscience Institute

JFK Parkinsons ArtFairFlyerHighRES 3

EDISON, NJ (April 2, 2013) – The JFK New Jersey Neuroscience Institute (NJNI) proudly presents the 3rd annual "The Gallery of Hope & Pride," a unique exhibition featuring works of art created by Parkinson's patients and caregivers.  To celebrate the exhibition, running from April 1st – 30th, the Institute is hosting a "Meet the Artists" reception with a silent auction on Wednesday, April 24th at 7:00 p.m. in the NJ Neuroscience Conference Room at 65 James Street, Edison, NJ.

Over the years, the JFK NJ Neuroscience Institute has been supporting patients with Parkinson's Disease (PD) and raising public awareness about Parkinson's through clinical services, events such as community seminars, an annual cycling for a cure, and "The Gallery of Hope & Pride" art exhibition. The goal of the show is to not only raise funds, but also to express to the community what people living with PD can do.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for people with Parkinson's to show the world their creativity and skills. JFK is proud to host this extraordinary exhibition," says Jacqueline Cristini, PA, MMSc, Assistant Professor & Deep Brain Stimulation Program Coordinator at JFK NJNI.  "There is now scientific evidence to suggest that certain activities — exercise, social connectedness and creativity — may not only be therapeutic for Parkinson's symptoms, but may actually improve brain function."

Unlike other art exhibits, "The Gallery of Hope & Pride" is distinctive in that every contributing artist is doing just that – living artistically with Parkinson's Disease. The exhibition will showcase paintings, drawings and photography from the artists.  All proceeds raised will benefit the education, awareness and research of Parkinson's disease at the Institute.
